Teacher Peace Ed Certification
In cooperation with the Institute for Pedagogical Studies (ISP), the Center for Peace and Disarmament Education in Albania (CPDE) has done the final training for eight teachers in Gramsh and Shkoder. These teachers have participated in several peace education trainings during the past two years and have written peace education activities for the teachers' manual "Toward a culture of peace." As part of our work with the "Jordan Misja" school in Shkodra, the need for computer skills training became evident in many of our activities, be they school newspaper, or working in a personal computer to write something. Hence we have created a partnership with International Community Assist-Albania (ICA-AL), an NGO whose mission is to help the poor and assist them with diverse skills. Our project is organizing sport activities in Shkodra in both eight-year and high school levels involving 28 schools and 900 pupils.
The aims are the following:
increase the cooperation between the schools
enhancing school community
engaging the pupils in activities that are an alternative to violence, drugs and revenge.

The process of organizing Successes of Implementation
The project has arrived at the stage when the schools propose little projects of their own in the field of peace and disarmament education and we provide the resources for it. To facilitate it and to make the opportunities as open as possible, we have created a mini-project application form through which the pupils, teachers, or any constituency that we work with can apply. Albanian Peace and Disarmament Education Manual Toward a Culture of Peace is finally published. The book includes contributions from 11 trained teachers from Gramsh and Shkodra, and has been written by a team of four educators bringing their perspectives to the manual. Of the four educators, two of them, Robert Gjedia and Albana Markja, come from the Institute for Pedagogical Studies, the institut School Newspapers
Both schools in Gramsh and Shkoder have already prepared the first issue of the school newspaper, and we developed training workshops to improve them. Our project will also subsidize partially the paper, covering the costs needed to publish all their editions for two years. Mock trial in Shkodra
As part of the exchange of experience between the two main schools in Gramsh and Shkodra, two youth leaders from Gramsh, Ina Idrizi and Arber Zaimi, trained ten of their Shkodra peers for a two-days workshop in Shkodra on the principles and practices of “mock trial”. The German language teachers at the Jordan Misja school organized a German-language activity Let us live together that celebrated the traditional songs, poetry and theatrical skits of three German speaking countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The underlying message was that we should celebrate diversity and learn from the other.
Some Shkodra pupils and teachers also initiated a series of Bridging social-cultural differences
“Bridging social-cultural differences” is a series of activities in Shkodra school that organized excursions between countryside pupils and town pupils that fostered a community in the school. The differences are huge in a town as Shkodra where the countryside newcomers live in virtual slums rife with blood feuds and unemployment. 10th of May, International Day of Human Rights
The Jordan Misja teachers and pupils organized three locally televised seminars on human rights. Then there were a series of meetings and discussions with the Shkodra judges in the courthouse. On the 10th of May the pupils then handed out materials on human rights in the center of the town, and flew kites of peace. National TV news covered this event as well.
Educational-entertaining evening wit Investments in infrastructure
We have invested in school libraries, Gramsh dormitory, green spaces in the schools, and opened the first open-library in Gramsh at the public library. Other activities
Through diverse sports and artistic activities, nearly all the pupils in both schools have been involved in the project. One of the most interesting activity in Shkodra was a three day marathon of 1) Science Day, 2) Literature Day, and 3) Sports day. During these days, pupils and teachers were involved in contests, recitals, and sport events that aimed to bring a better understanding of tolerance Translations
We are also committed to cooperating with the UNDP project on Small Arms in Albania and the SESAC in Belgrade. We are committing resources from our translation budget to translate the pack on small arms awareness. This resource is also going to be used by the UNDP project on physical disarmament, therefore promoting our cooperation as well. You can find the resource online at: Parent's committee
In Shkodra, we had our parents committee’ meeting/training. This was new to the project and we had these aims:
Introduce them to the project and vice-versa
Identify their priorities toward the school
Invite them to participate in the project through projects of their own, in which they would contribute at least 5 % of the value monetarily or through volunteer work.

In Gramsh and Shkodra, we have continued to support the school newspapers, debate clubs, pupil senates. The teachers have been further trained in the field of conflict resolution, tolerance, and preparing a peace education lesson plan.
