Our project is organizing sport activities in Shkodra in both eight-year and high school levels involving 28 schools and 900 pupils.
The aims are the following:
- increase the cooperation between the schools
- enhancing school community
- engaging the pupils in activities that are an alternative to violence, drugs and revenge.
- Teach health and hygienic education.
The process of organizing the championships is the following: First, there are championships inside each of the sixteen schools to select the best team that is going to represent the school. Then, each school team plays against other teams until you select the best 4 teams for the semi-finals.
Due to the dire needs in Shkodra, our project is also helping with infrastructural investments of proving sports uniforms, soccer balls, volleyballs, basket balls and nets, cups for the winning teams, that will remain with the schools in the end of the program.
The activity has been jointly coordinated by the "Jordan Misja" school, the Educational Directorate in Shkodra, "Vllaznia" sports club in Shkodra, principals and physical education teachers from the twenty-schools involved in it. Throughout the activity, sports coaches have been selecting some of the best players to be included in their professional youth teams, hence creating more opportunities for talented youth to continue their commitment to sports.
The peace and disarmament project sponsors this project, and our banners are all over the center of Shkodra, sometimes standing next to the latest political banners.
"Friendship and Peace" volleyball activity amongst the high schools in Shkodra follows our successful activity a year ago. Twelve high schools, 120 girls and 120 boys were involved in this activity that went on from March 15 till the end of May. Each school selected the best team through their own games, and this team represented them in the championship.
"Culture of Peace" sports activity between the eight-year schools (pre-high school) in Shkodra went on since March 15th until May 30. This is the first activity that our project has done with eight-year schools, and complements our sports activities with the high schools. The sports activities were in three disciplines: volleyball, basketball (boys and girls) and soccer (boys). Sixteen schools in Shkodra were involved in this activity. 320 girls and 480 boys were active participants in these sports championships. |
