Summer school in Conflict Resolution

In the beginning of September in Gramsh, the project conducted a 6-day summer school in Conflict Resolution and Transformation in cooperation with trainers from the Foundation for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation and the Institute for Pedagogical Studies.

The target group were 22 teachers from the secondary schools in Gramsh and Shkodra. As the previous trainings had been in the field of human rights and tolerance, we put the emphasis in the education for conflict resolution and transformation.

The school was conceptualized as a Training for Trainers that aimed at: a) knowledge about conflict resolution, and b) fostering skills to apply these knowledge in the school environment. In order to achieve these aims, we relied upon the HAP resources in peace education, and the experience of the trainers from the Foundation that have been working in the field since 1997.

The participants evaluated the summer school in a very positive light. In the end, they started to develop lesson plans of their own concerning conflict resolution.

Gender training

Teachers and youth leaders in Gramsh and Shkodra were also trained in the field of gender mainstreaming. We decided to dedicate fully two days for such a training for both teachers and pupils using the resources of the Women's Center in Albania. The objectives of the gender training were:

  • understanding the fundamental concepts concerning gender and development
  • offering knowledge and skills to promote gender equality in our society
  • fostering the participants' personal commitment toward gender equality
  • encouraging the development of the participants' skills to include elements of gender in planning and analysis.

The training involved the participants in many ways, and they made action plans concerning their inclusion of gender mainstreaming in school, family and other social spaces. After this training, the debate clubs are working on local public debates concerning the gender discrimination, where they are also using the famous resolution on "Women count" that HAP has sponsored.
